Many in the know (law enforcement, etc) have all commented and warned that regardless if Obama wins or loses.. their will be shootings, deaths, gang violence, rioting, looting - general mayhem in the streets of Chicago.
Moreso, of course, if Obama loses the election. This could be the running thread for all acts of violence that occurs tomorrow night and possibly the days after wards.
Gang violence and looting could ruin Barack Obama's party in Chicago if he wins the US election.

Sounds like they should close the schools and businesses for Wednesday through Friday (at least) and send all the cops home. Then just let the Darwinian theory play itself out! 
If only it were that simple...

aaaahhh dont scare me,, i work a few blocks from there! im hoping our boss will let us go home early, if nothin else but because of the strees closing, buses and trains running a different schedule,,, I wanna get outta Dodge early!

All of the Loop and the surrounding areas already have the parking restrictions in place as of today. If not yet currently then they will by this evening. Business in the downtown area have, for the most part, said they will remain open as normal.
The colleges located downtown have said they will have no more classes by 3:00 PM and close most of their facilities by 6:00 PM.
A lot of the building managers for the downtown area are asking their tenants (business, etc) to consider letting their people go home early.
All of CPD is on call tomorrow and any day offs scheduled for tomorrow have been canceled - but they are severely understaffed as it is.. and they cannot leave the rest of the city abandoned.
They have yet to formally contact the Cook County Sheriff's department and surrounding agencies.
Tomorrow will not be good.

OK, I am going to have to get off the forums for a while. I am about ready to cry again.
EDITED TO ADD: Don't mind me. I'm peri-menopausal and likely more emotional because of it. And my husband is on the road and DD#1 is at college. If the country's going down the toilet I'd like them back with me.
I'm going to make a custom iPod playlist for tomorrow of songs that remind me God's in control and play it over and over.

Huh.
I had never heard of this sort of thing before. Not even in the context of being like a superbowl party or something. Did I just miss it previously or is it a new issue?
Please be safe, people in Chicago. I'll be keeping an eye on the news and praying for you.
If it's any reassurance, Denver was worried due to the convention and none of the gloom and doom some people predicted actually happened (sure some people got arrested but it was pretty tame). So hopefully it will be the same way in Chicago... lots of people, annoying traffic, but nobody getting hurt. Though I did find the comment in the article that 4 people got shot down there just attending a "Taste of Chicago" festival rather alarming.

I'd think that area would be crawling with cops and ultimately one of the safer places to be.
What does Chicago do during fireworks demonstrations on July 4 or during parades? Do riots break out at every large gathering?

Just about. At the July 4th 'Taste of Chicago' event four people were shoot in broad daylight, in the middle of a busy street. One person died.
Outsiders don't grasp how severely understaffed CPD is and how many thousands and thousands of gang bangers there are in Chicago.

It does kind of make you wonder, though... do you think people would be expecting riots had Hillary gotten the nomination? Honestly I'm a little surprised that nobody is calling the notion that Obama is some sort of riot-catalyst racist or something...

In Denver it was the lack of oxygen.
Maybe Chicago could pump nitrous into the air? Have a mellow little truth-fest.

If the police are understaffed, couldn't they call in the National Guard for reinforcement?
Is Chicago the only place that is having concerns of rioting?

I thought that I heard somewhere that there was a specific number of troops that were brought back to secure the states in case of rioting. I heard the same thing about the National Guard.
I suppose that could be "conspiracy" thinking though, some of those sites.....
