1 billion dollars was pledged to help the Georgians rebuild their country.
I don't know about the rest of you, but this disturbs me greatly.
This is the exact thing the present presidential candidates need to be questioning. How do they plan to spend our tax dollars responsibly?
We had nothing to do with Georgia. Why are we sending this money, that SHOULD be spent in our own country, fixing OUR OWN problems?
We have bridges that need repairing, but instead they will raise our taxes to spend as they see fit!
Nobody asked the American people how our tax dollars should be spent.
They say we have a voice, yet do you vote on how your money is spent?
Do our leaders listen when we voice our unhappiness?
They haven't yet. After all, we are still at war, remember.
The pull out is political maneuvering. They have no intentions of leaving.
So how is it that they scream we don't have enough money for this or for that, yet we have 1 billion tax dollars to send to a foreign country?

It truly blows my mind that the majority of our population doesn't scream about this!
We truly are a nation sleeping. Then we look to whomever we can and cast blame, when it's really up to us to do something and make our voices heard.
Oooh I forgot, the Patriot Act 2 prevents us from doing that- we just might be considered homegrown terrorist!

I agree with you. I am also growing tired of hearing about all of the PC pet projects this country takes on with our tax dollars yet we here in the US, the ones funding the government's spending money, should just keep our mouths shut and keep paying. It's insane.

I think we should pull a "Mouse That Roared" scenario. We all secede from the union and declare war on the feds, let them "fight us" for the win and then have them spend billions rebuilding us! We just have to make sure no one takes the government's "Q bomb"!

This is why our right to vote is so important and why people should vote even if they feel that the must choose the lesser of two evil.
The idea behind the average person having the right to vote is that they have the right and power to choose people they feel will speak for them and vote on legislation as they would, given all the facts.
The problem in America is that the vast majority do not bother to exercise theu vote. When that happens, as George Washington warned, the political parties take over and sooner or later one will use any means necessary to set itself as a dictatorship. Fortuneately we seem to have had enough people interested in this country to vote and keep that from happening , so far.
As for the aid, I believe a valid arguement can be made tha twe do indeed need and reason to help out the people of Georgia any way we can.

Leon, I appreciate your input. I don't disagree that we need to be choosy in how we cast out vote.
That system too has it's faults. We put a democratic congress in place because our country desired change. They promised that they would institute change just to get elected. We've has nothing more but the same. They didn't listen when they took control.
So, it's just not that simple.
I write my congressman and senators to voice my complaints. I'm not one to complain and do nothing.
Georgia is not our country's problem. $1 billion dollars is a lot of money that could go to repairing our failing infrastructure. That $1 billion could pay for the repairs and the labor to put us back together again and not increase our taxes so dramatically.
Unemployment is at it's highest in five years. Our people need work. Our country need things too.
Yet, our elected seem to find it necessary to give money away without the need of repayment, while we still owe China a dollar amount we can't repay. We have been repaying them with land and trade.
That in itself has caused serious job loss here in the states.
Our money, tax dollars, go to rebuilding other countries, yet they scream raise taxes because we don't have enough to make the necessary repairs.
And the American people still sleep peacefully, dreaming the American dream, hoping to see it happen one day.
It's really a nightmare.

I haven't heard much outrage, but I know I was angry when I read this story. This is something that NATO or other countries should have helped with or handled. Philanthropy is great, but please don't do this with our money!
We gave $hundreds of millions to the tsunami victims and other causes around the world also and I wish these government handouts would stop.
