it's the russian family Maggie.
I think some of the youtube comments are cruel and disgusting.

why is it ridiculous? What is ridiculous? The news coverage? Surely the fact that they have 18 children and are a happy, God-loving family isn't ridiculous....?

Well, that's youtube for you. I like youtube for certain things (listening to a song on it right now), but I generally don't read the comments.

What I think is ridiculous is that anyone else thinks it's ridiculous. Maybe not everyone wants to have a big family, but I have never understood why people think it's their business if someone else does.

I am just really happy for them. It is nice to see a good news story.

...and yes, I did think that this was going to be about the Duggars.

Aw, I'm sorry Maggie...It's not a Russian family, but it is a Romanian family..I'll try to see if I can find a related article. And BTW, the wife wears a head covering.

Oh, thanks, Christina..I just found an article, too...I'll see if yours is the same before I link it. Well, I had a different article, but yours is better because it has a picture, and I was sorry I couldn't find one with a picture...so I'll just leave your link as a link...Thank you very much, Christina..I didn't realize dialup had that limitation...so from now on if I post from youtube, I'll try to also post a related article.

Well, I actually enjoyed the segment....I thought they seemed like a nice family...they also seemed real, and down to earth, and their kids seemed allowed to be individuals more so than the Duggars, and the girls were out playing basketball and on the trampoline with the boys..on the Duggar website..the boys pictures are all of them having fun..and most of the girls' pictures are of them working..I'm sure that the boys do work, and that the girls do have fun at the Duggars..but the pictures didn't do a good job of showing that..I was glad to see the whole family out having fun on this video with the Romanian family.

Thanks for the article link! I have heard of them, and I think they are cool. I think they were in the news when they had their 17th baby too. I remember the dresses and headcovering. I love the quote from the dad--pretty much perfectly sums up the QF perspective.

They're clearly enamored of the baby--looks like the shine hasn't worn off having babies for them even after 18.

That's what I thought. Of course, Romania is a very hard place to live, so I am sure the parents still have their blessings in mind every day.

I thought the article said they immigrated to Canada? I always wonder how they provide the basics for a family that large? And the health concerns for the mother trouble me too. She looked a lot older than 44 in the picture. But ultimately it is their decision.

As far as youtube...it seems to attract the most hateful or just plain ignorant people so I don't even bother. I'll listen to songs like the other poster said but that's about it.

They did immigrate to Canada...that's why my op says "British Columbian couple,"....British Columbia is IN Canada..It is not uncommon to refer to immigrants as their original nationality (it's not an insult..more of an explanation)...they are a Romanian couple who are now British Colulmbian Canadians.

People are always talking about pregnancy like it's a sickness! Instead of, you know, the way women's bodies are made.

As for how old she looks, she doesn't use makeup, dye her hair, etc, so she isn't going to look like most 44 yo women on TV. And she had given birth three days prior, so she was probably still tired. I know I would be.

The kids are gone all day and the mom does all the housework (except dinner dishes) according to that schedule. That would not be desireable to me! LOL

Pregnancy is not an illness, but it is still tremendously taxing on the human body. There's a reason why many recommend waiting at least a year between pregnancies. It takes that long, plus some to recover.

I would say that while a few women can have 18 pregnancies, most women's bodies could not handle that kind of strain. To act like it's easy-peasy because "that's the way God made us" is to ignore the fact that we live in imperfect bodies that can break under to much strain.

My last pregnancy did a number on my thyroid, making the situation worse then it was before. This current pregnancy may do it in. That's okay, since modern medicine allows me to supplement that incredible important function with a pill, but that's only 2 pregnancies. Pregnancy can and does have permanent, detrimental effect on a woman's body (in some situations, not every woman, obviously).

My children are absolutely worth it, but it's still nothing easy or light, even if it's not technically an "illness".

Well, her last two were 20 months apart, so apparently God waited the recommended time.

I believe God gives us our immortal soul, but pregnancy is still a biological process (designed by God), but it can certainly happen more frequently than every 2 years.

None of that changes the fact that pregnancy and childbirth can have permanent effects on the human body that go far beyond the uterus.

Maybe we should be worrying about you, then, Ruth! Lol! After all, we know you, and we don't know the Romanian lady in Canada.

My pregnancy makes me throw up multiple times a day - and I've been doing that for about 13 weeks. (I am 20 weeks.) It has also cause a bladder infection and messed up thyroid function. (Although the last preg. seemed to make it better.)

So....no it's it's not a sickness, but because sin entered the world w/ Adam and Eve and our bodies degenerate over time, pregnancy makes me feel like I've been run over...............

I've had a bad pregnancy and a good pregnancy myself, and my good pregnancy included 3 months of all-day sickness. I lost 20 lbs those three months. I still came out of it healthy, with a healthy, 10-lb baby. Just because pregnancy is difficult doesn't mean it's going to ruin a woman's body. Sometimes things like that happen, but to worry across the board about any woman who has had more than a handful of babies is ridiculous.

The comments about how our bodies are designed by God for childbearing are true but the fact remains that all of creation has been affected by the curse on sin. So therefor do not function in perfection as God designed. 18 pregnancies has got to effect a woman's body.

As far as my comment regarding the lady's looks I certainly wasn't basing it on the typical Hollywood or TV star. I am 44 myself and I was basing my assessment on myself and my peers. Now I must qualify that by saying I wasn't there when the picture was taken and everyone takes a bad picture now and then. But I stand by my comment that she looked, in that photo, older than 44.

My point is that we hold these "mega families" up as so amazing, and they really aren't. They are just people who have made a different parenting decision than the mainstream.
